A good tree yields fruits. Stone missiles are aimed at it frequently. It would be good to preserve such trees. Unfortunately, human beings have no mercy. The case with Orange Democratic Movement is more complicated. The largest political party by legislators is not only a being beaten by stones but there are threats to cut it down.
Since the departure of Ababu Namwamba, there are massive threats. More are on their way out.
In the 2013 general elections, there was the sharing of seats in regions for fairness. Example; in Siaya, the governor is from Rarieda (Rasanga) and the Senator from Ugenya (Orengo). In cosmopolitan counties, the different communities agreed on who to vie for the posts. Migori has a combination of Luo and Kurias. They shared the gubernatorial and senatorial seats.
Okoth Obado is the governor while Wilfred Machage the senator.
The senator has been calling for a repeat of the sharing formula in next year’s elections. The liberal, yet a greedy voice, can only indicate how our leaders are trying to push forward their tribal ambitions. He appears to have been neglected, though by the political elites from ODM.
In the rally that the ODM party held last week in Migori, the senator was conspicuously absent. The senator, according to reliable sources feared being catcalled for his push for the sharing formulae. In an interview, he was categorical that so many tribes are moving out of the orange party and it will not be a difficult thing for him to lead an exodus of his community.
I fear for our country. Politics is dissecting this land. I see forty two countries coming out of this one land if we don’t solve these differences early.
