A burst State House sewer was last week fixed after complaints from Kileleshwa and Kirichwa residents.
According to reports, Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company’s technicians worked till 2am to avoid embarrassing the seat of the presidency. Residents of the affected residents were planning to demonstrate the following day.
The sewer line had been leaking into Kirichwa River for close to a year, causing a bad stench in the neighborhood. It was only after a local newspaper carried the story that the authorities swung into action.
“They were under pressure to fix it before dawn. They finalised at around 2am,” a resident narrated.
Nairobi City County Environment executive officer Peter Kimori defended the county government saying that they only found out about the leaking sewer after the media reports. Residents however disagreed saying they’ve reported the matter on multiple occasions.
